If you’re male, broke, and of average education, there is still hope for marrying well. According to a recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center (Washington, D.C.), women are not only making more but are also choosing to settle for men who make less. Yup, it’s never been a better time to find yourself a Sugar Mama, even “Homeless Bill” above.

Seriously though, the in-depth study was based on more than 40 years of collected data from married couples and revealed significant stats worth sharing. Mainly, it showed that women’s wages increased by 44 percent, compared to only 6 percent growth for men, since the 70’s. Additionally, it revealed that for the first time ever, among couples under the age of 44, more women than men have college degrees. Finally, and most importantly, the study showed that the amount of women making more money than their husbands has jumped by 22%.

But what does this all mean? Well, as many experts agree, the information shows a trend in which larger shares of women are marring men with less education and income. Pew reinforced this opinion noting that with the recent economic downturn, the trend shows college graduates being affected the least; thus, a kind of “gender reversal,” with women retaining more jobs than their husbands.

And what lays a little further down the rabbit hole? Well, I would say a sort of future population in the U.S. where men are outnumbered by women that are more highly educated and earn more cash. This could mean a complete reversal in traditional societal roles: stay at home dads, house-husbands, maybe even future reality TV shows with male version spin-offs of the “Real Housewives” series… who knows?

These facts may make many older men uncomfortable and insecure. It may even make some middle-aged men want to overcompensate by paying for everything. However, there will surely be a slew of young, conniving guys out there that will now act like wives from the 60’s or modern gold-diggers, as they consider the size of a lady’s purse before allowing her to put a ring on their finger.
